Name: Catherine Wong
Title: Campus Recruiter, Central Canada, and Manager, Assurance
Organization: Ernst & Young LLP
Hometown: Mississauga, Ontario
Education/Qualifications: Chartered Accountant; Master of Accounting, University of Waterloo; Honours Arts Accountancy, University of Waterloo
My life before Ernst & Young: In high school, a teaching assistant job at the local school board allowed me to express my passion for helping others learn. During university, I held a co-op position at Ernst & Young, and after my first year as a manager I took a sabbatical from the firm to teach as an adjunct professor to 200 first-year Waterloo accounting students. I also taught an audit course to fourth-year students at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Where I am today: As a campus recruiter, I enjoy meeting students and being able to express my creative side. My job is exciting and changes every day. From teaching senior members at the firm to having client meetings or running info sessions, my job is energizing and versatile. I am responsible for recruitment at several universities in Central Canada.
In my spare time: I enjoy playing volleyball and travelling. I have travelled to several exotic locations. I’ve visited Europe, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Egypt and the Galapagos, and I recently climbed Machu Picchu. Additionally, I value giving back to my community and have been actively involved with the United Way.
Interesting fact: While travelling in the Amazon, I went piranha fishing and nearly stepped on a tarantula.
